WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is rolling out a new feature that allows users to link their accounts to an email address. This means that instead of relying solely on SMS verification, users now have the option to use email verification to authenticate their WhatsApp accounts.
This feature was previously available in a beta version of WhatsApp, but now it is accessible to all users. The latest version, 23.24.70, of WhatsApp for iOS, which can be found on the App Store, includes the email verification feature.
If you find yourself in a location without cellular coverage and need to log in to your WhatsApp account, you can now use email verification as an alternative to SMS verification. To link an email address to your account, simply go to the Your Profile page, then the Account menu, and finally select Email Address.
It’s important to note that the email address is only required for account access and is not shared with other users. Keep in mind that while email authentication is available, a valid phone number is still necessary to use WhatsApp.
In addition to this new email linking feature, WhatsApp is also introducing a voice chat feature that provides a less disruptive way to connect with large groups on the platform. With voice chats, you can have live conversations with members of a group chat while still being able to send messages within the group.
Stay tuned for more updates from WhatsApp as they continue to enhance the user experience with new features and improvements.
